Unknown gunmen yesterday on Bonny water ways in Rivers State took two men hostage after attacking the ship.No known militant group operating in the Niger-Delta region has claimed responsibility for the latest attack yet.

Sunday Trust learnt that the attackers, riding in five speed boats, attacked the yet to be identified ship and took the captain and engineer hostage before escaping.

The incident was confirmed by the Army Public Relations Officer, Lt. Col. Sagir Musa, who said that the attack occurred yesterday at 11 am, 15 nautical miles north-west off the Bonny coast.

He identified the captain of the ship as a foreign national while the engineer of the vessel is a Nigerian.

"A captain suspected to be a white man whose identity is yet to be ascertained and Nigerian engineers were abducted. The attack took place 15 miles North West from the Bonny channel. Probably beyond the capacity of the JTF and outside its area of responsibility," he said.

Meanwhile, the wife of the chief executive of an indigenous oil servicing company, Mrs. Margaret Idisi, kidnapped by unknown gunmen has regained her freedom.

Mrs. Idisi, 56, who was kidnapped on April 20 from her family home in Port-Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, was set free by her abductors early yesterday, somewhere in Bayelsa State, after 12 harrowing days in captivity.

No further details could be given as to the exact location where she was found and those responsible for her ordeal.

According to family sources, the wife of Chief Humphrey Idisi, chairman of Lonestar Group Nigeria Limited, was unharmed and looked healthy despite having complained of being sick when she was allowed to contact her family by the kidnappers.

Sunday Trust could, however, not confirm if ransom was paid by the Idisi family before her release.

Our correspondent recalls that immediately she was abducted, her captors demanded for N1billion as ransom, but reduced the ransom to N500 million after some days with a thereat to eliminate the entire Idisi family if they refuse to pay within two days.
