Gov. Murtala Nyako
Adamawa State’s new governor, retired Admiral Murtala Hammanyero Nyako, took the oath of office yesterday with a pledge to meet the expectations of the people of the state.

Nyako and his deputy, Bala James Ngillari, were sworn in by the state’s Chief Judge, Justice Bemare Bansi, in Yola at a colourful ceremony attended by top government officials, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leaders and thousands of its supporters.

Delivering his speech immediately after taking the oath, Governor Nyako said: "I pledge to do my utmost to meet people’s expectations. God willing, you will not be disappointed".

He said the nullification of his election had briefly interrupted the progress of his programmes for the state, stressing however that his return guarantees the resumption of the programmes.

He called on the leaders of other political parties to cooperate with him and begin a new dawn in the state.

"Adamawa State belongs to all of us… We cannot afford to leave political differences, group interests or personal ambitions" to block the development of the state.

"Let me remind all of us that the election is now over. Let us put the anxiety of the past few weeks behind us and face the challenges of developing of our state…It is a new dawn," he said.

Nyako, however, hit at his main opponents, accusing their administration of corruption and incompetence.

"The landslide nature of our victory at the poll is a clear indication that voters have got our message and rejected religious, ethnic and other retrogressive primordial politics.

"Let me at this juncture express how deeply I appreciate the enormity of the responsibility put on my shoulders and my colleagues for this unprecedented popular support", he said.

Nyako was declared winner of last Saturday’s governorship re-run election in the state by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), saying his party had won in all the 21 local government areas of the state.

His main rival, Alhaji Ibrahim Bapetel of the Action Congress (AC), however, rejected the result as fraudulent and "alien" to the political and heterogeneous nature of the state.

The AC on its part alleged that the Adamawa’s governorship seat was auctioned by INEC to the highest bidder. It promised to publish the full details of its own results.

At yesterday’s ceremony, Nyako officially took over from former Acting Governor, James Barka, who held the office for two months.

Messge for Ahmed.
Ahmed, Just allow Sobajo to say the truth. I strongly believe that he knows what he is saying. Know that there is time for everything. If you know how some tribes have abused power in the state since 1979 you will strongly believe with him. It is good for everyboy to uphold his religion and tribe but that does not call for wickedness and enslaving others. Leadership is from God but God frown at wcked leaders. if Nyako can pay the price of his 8 months of wickedness by annulment and re-election with what will he pay if he continues for the next 3 years. AHMED, we are not going to look for any state of origin. we will remain there LIVE by Gods Grace. it seems that it is you that can never learn.

Re: Will Nyako Change His Style?
Even after Adamawa voters have clearly rejected the Fulani-domination theory put forward by the AC during the election re-run, someone is still writing about it again as we see on this page by "Sobajo". Sobajo, if you are somehow hoping not to see any Fulani in Adamawa government again, let me tell you that will vever happen. If you can't tolerate seeing even a few Fulani in government then you may have to find another state of origin. Some people will never learn.

WILL NYAKO CHANGE HIS STYLE?
For anyone who followed the 8 months stay of Nyako in office will not fail to see his direction- Install his favorite ethnic tribe. From the advert that appeared yesterday, it was no coincidence that the cabal of 8 who paid over N5m to congratulate him in national dailies, besides using state resources all of them happen to come from his fulbe group. Now they have taken the riegns of power, we watch their move and see whether he has learnt the lesson of his predecessor whose ineptitude and readiness to serve his master instead of Adamawa people made him to fail woefully.
My advice for Nyako is not to succumb to the plot of the cabal surrounding him that all he has to do is to please his ethnic group only. Let him serve the generality of Adamawa citizens and make a diffrence.
