The leader of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND), Chief Asari Dokubo and a legal practitioner, Mr. Festus Keyamo, have asked an Abuja Chief Magistrate Court to order the Police and the State Security Services to investigate former president Obasanjo.

They want Obasanjo investigated over alleged killings at Odi and Tiv people (Zaki-Biam) in Benue and Bayelsa states between 1999 and 2001.

They held that Obasanjo ordered troops to kill innocent people in Odi town and Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area of Bayelsa State and Zaki Biam of Benue State, saying that the offence was contrary to section 221 of the penal code and was punishable with death.

According to the suit, Obasanjo needs to be held responsible for the deaths of all the people during the invasion by soldiers as he was the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, which meant that there was no deployment of soldiers to any part of the country without his consent, directive or command.

Keyamo said Obasanjo could not be brought to justice before now because of the immunity he enjoyed when he was the president, saying that he could be brought to book now.

The matter has been fixed for hearing for May 15, 2008.

Trying Obasanjo?
So, some persons still believe in Nigeria inspite of the happenings during Obasanjo!
That means great HOPE for the continued survival of this 'great' nation.
Nigeria, ONE nation?
Yes o. Thanks to the blind faith of such persons, things will continue as they have ever done. After all turning round and round and returning to starting point is some form of progress.
