Thousand of bees yesterday invaded Mpape Market and destabilized market activities for a period of two hours.

The bees which unexpectedly came out of a nearby bush from the eastern side of the market, were said to have entered into the market from 9am.

Mallam Abdullahi Korau, who was an eyewitness, appeared shaken after the incident.

"It seems the bees knew where they were heading to as they went through the market in thousands as if looking for an abode and only God knows their mission," he said.

He further explained that the bees finally settled at a fruit sellers’ site. According to him "after a while they went directly to fruit sellers, who sell oranges, pineapple, and pawpaw, among others. The sellers had to vacate their stalls for fear of being stung."

At the same time, shop owners and warden in the market had to close their shops and run for safety. "To the surprise of everyone, no one had been sting, they just dispersed into a nearby bush after hovering around for a while", he said.

Some businessmen further commented that they had never experienced anything like that before.

However, there was no report of casualities during the period the bees spent at the market.
