The Rivers state chapter of the Action Congress (AC) has warned that it will oppose the administration of Governor Chibuike Amaechi if the state government derails from its objective of delivering democracy dividends to citizens of the state.

According to the party which has entered into partnership with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)-led government in Rivers State, it would not hesitate to assume its role as an opposition party, whenever it suspects that the Amaechi administration is losing focus and reneging on its promises to the people.

The Publicity secretary of the party, Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, who disclosed the AC position yesterday in Port-Harcourt, also said the party would soon make public the performance record of the Amaechi administration in the last six months.

Eze explained that the AC in the state is making the clarification to dispel any misinterpretation of the endorsement of its participation in a PDP government by the national leadership of the party.

"Without mincing words, the idea of teaming up with the administration of Amaechi was principally taken putting into consideration the precarious security situation of the state at that particular time and most principally that Rivers state belongs to us and all its indigenes to build and move forward’’, he said.

According to him. ‘’should we have failed to take that historical step at that time, the enemies of Rivers State who came to us to buy us so that we can sustain our case before the election tribunal would have succeeded to bring down the administration of Governor Amaechi long before now’’.

"For the avoidance of doubt, we are taking this step in order to protect and enhance better governance in Rivers State devoid of corruption, nepotism and other undemocratic acts but that we have an administration based on high principles and

morals and which is result driven which is why our national leader, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has seen reasons with us to support,’’ he added.

"In this regard, we will like to assure our supporters, and the good people of Rivers State of our determination to continue to pile pressure on Governor Amaechi to embark on fruitful projects that will yield democratic dividends to our people and also to criticize any wrong step by the government as we did over its poor conduct of the local council polls", Eze promised.
