The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reconciled the warring factions in Delta state, foreclosing the possibility of fresh congresses in the state. The party has also endorsed the Peter Nwaboshi led state executive and called on all stakeholders to support Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan. In a statement issued yesterday after its National Working Committee (NWC) meeting by its national publicity secretary, Professor Rufai Ahmed Alkali, PDP urged party members in the state to work together in the interest of peace. "The NWC after due consultation with all PDP Stakeholders in Delta State has resolved to recognize the State Executive Committee of the Party in Delta State under the leadership of Barr. Peter Nwaboshi’’ the statement said. The statement added, "NWC urges all Party members in Delta State to join hands with the Government of Delta State and the leadership of the Party to move the state forward in the interest of peace and tranquillity." Speaking after the meeting, Halims Agoda, who is a member of the House of Representatives, said the parley was peaceful. Agoda said the meeting stressed the need to bring development to Delta state and endear people to join the party. According to him,’’the national chairman and the entire National Working Committee (NWC) were present and talked about the issue of enduring peace, how Delta state will have one PDP in the state and how PDP family will endear other people in the state and how to promote development of the state." He also said the national chairman had directed them to go and work together under the leadership of Peter Nwaobushi as the party chairman and the state governor who is also the leader of the party in the state. Last week, Ogbulafor received a delegation of party leaders from Delta state led by Chief Mike Adiotomre. He used the opportunity to summon a meeting between the two major factions in the state to iron out the contending issues ahead of state local government election. The two factions were directed to send fifteen delegates each to attend the reconciliatory talks that were held yesterday. The national chairman expressed regret over the crisis in the state pointing out that there is need for peace to allow the state governor face his statutory functions. Yesterday’s parley was attended by Chief Edwin Clark, Senator James Manager, former PDP Chairman in the state; Dr Pius Senebe, a member of the House of Representatives; Mercy Almona Isei, the state chairman; Chief Peter Nwaobushi and the new state speaker; Martins Okonta among others.
