The Federal Government has expressed dismay over the way Lagos state government has embarked on launching of the Eko Atlantic city project without its [FG’s] consent.

The Minister for Environment, Housing and Urban Development, Mrs. Halima Tayo Alao, in a statement signed by her chief press secretary, Clement Egbeama, said "attention of the ministry has been drawn to the launch of Eko Atlantic City Project of the Lagos State Government which took place last Wednesday.

She said: "The Federal government wishes to state that the Lagos State government is fully aware of the various efforts to resolve the issues surrounding the project amicably before the project can be embarked upon.

"The unilateral decision of the Lagos State Government to embark on the launch is inimical to efforts to resolve these issues to the satisfaction of all concerned."

The statement added that the Federal Government wishes to inform members of the public to know that it was not in any way consulted or connected with the event.

Lagos & Yoruba people
Of course the minister should be concerned. Yinka writes as if it was the lagosian money they used to build lagos. Must i remind you that it was from the FG. You cannot take from one hand while biting the other hand.

There is nothign wrong with the minsitert mentioning the minor details which need to be taken care of first

Senator Iyabo Obasanjo should endevour to appear in the office of the EFCC to clerify the issues on ground. Her refusal to show-up in the EFCC's office is a great violation of the law.

Eko Atalantic City
The last time i checked i thought we're operating a Federal system of government.
Some of these ministers have to be schooled in Federal system of government, they need to be told the military era of impunity and power grabbing unitarianism is over and rule of law is the in thing now.
If the project does not intend to dredge water ways that may affect adjoining states or extend into neigbhouring states, the federal ministry have scant input to it, they cannot dictate to any state on how it intends to develop itself or seek to approve where a state locates it's capital. If it's been done before, that era is over now. We still remember how the central goverment frustrated Lagos IPP plans because some dubious approval was required. Let us all develop at our own pace.
