The eTranzact, a payment platform firm has disclosed that it would sponsor this year’s edition of the African Banking Technology Conference scheduled to hold at Eko Hotel, Lagos between 7th and 8th May, 2008.

According to Folake Abayomi, eTranzact’s Head of Business Development, eTranzact chose to partner with AITEC Africa, the conference organizers in making the conference a reality, in order to help drive awareness and adoption of new technology in Nigeria ’s vibrant banking sector.

"Nigeria’s banking sector," she said, "has become increasingly vibrant and continues to grow and deepen considerably." Such growth, she added, would be fast-tracked if the banking sector is able to optimize technology and technological tools and solutions to its advantage.

According to Abayomi, "a great deal of the growth which the banking sector will experience in the days ahead will run on the back of a robust cashless and mobile commerce platform." eTranzact, she said, is currently spearheading mobile commerce awareness and penetration not just in the banking sector but among the general public. In so doing, the company is providing different avenues and channels by which people can pay for goods and services besides parting with physical cash.

Only recently, she said, eTranzact finalized a partnership with Intercontinental Bank in which customers of the bank in Nigeria in addition to being able to withdraw money from any of the bank’s ATM machines in Nigeria (Naira), may withdraw money from any of the bank’s ATM machines in Ghana and in Ghanaian currency, should they wish to, when they travel to Ghana. This is the first time any such scheme is happening in Nigeria’s financial sector and indeed in the entire West Africa and we are happy and proud to be part of this innovative development which gives people an incentive to travel without necessarily carrying cash."
