The Apostolic Church field superintendent in-charge of Rivers and Bayelsa States,Apostle Augustus Aeba has charged pubic office holders in the Niger-Delta region to minimize personal gains and concentrate on the socio-economic development of the region.

Apostle Aeba gave the charge at the weekend in Port-Harcourt when the Apostolic

Church, Maritime Field honoured five of its members holding key positions at the federal and state levels.

He said as Christians, the awardees must utilize their positions in the service of humanity and impact positively on the lives of people in the region, including changing the perception in the Niger-Delta that public office is for personal aggrandizement.

The awardees, the cleric said, must resist the temptation of using their positions to enrich themselves at the expense of the masses of the volatile region as has been the vogue not only in the Niger-Delta, but throughout the country.

According to Apostle Aeba, what the country, and especially the Niger-Delta region need is practical compassion from those in positions of authority, stressing that the "anger in our homes, streets and communities today, primarily stem from the neglect of public utilities by successive governments and the deplorable state of the people in the midst of plenty.

"People are angry over perennial power outages, endless traffic congestions, bad roads, shortage of employment opportunities and the seemingly insensitivity or inactivity of successive governments towards their plight".

The apostle added that it is only when public officers use their positions for the benefit of the people that "God will see them as His true and faithful servants", and further admonished the awardees that "whether your present position would either be your highest in your life time or would be just another stepping stone depends on what you make of it".
