The Kano State government has donated N13m to the hajj camp market robbery victims, a statement from the office of the Secretary to the State Government has announced.

The statement signed by the press secretary to the SSG, Malam Kabiru Salisu Koki, which was made available to Daily Trust in Kano yesterday said the victims have received the donation of 50 percent of their losses.

"After the initial assistance given to the victims, government has set up a committee which identified eleven victims who required financial assistance and hence, government decided to assist them financially," the statement indicated.

Presenting the donation yesterday, the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Abdulkareem Hassan who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Malam Bello Shehu Usman said though the gesture did not reflect the actual losses, it would at least relieve them.

The SSG however urged the beneficiaries to reciprocate the gesture through judicious utilization of the donation, saying the aim of the assistance was to enable them to return to business.

He also prayed to Almighty God to prevent future occurrence of such incident.

One of the victims, Alhaji Akibu Usman thanked the state government for the gesture, saying the assistance would greatly revive their businesses.

Also speaking, the chairman, Hajj Camp Traders Association, Alhaji Yusuf Usaini described the donation as timely. He assured of judicious utilization of the money.

It would be recalled that in July last year heavily armed robbers besieged the busy hajj camp market in a day light robbery, killing one person and taking away cash and jewelries worth millions of naira.
