The Niger State government has acquired equipment worth over N178 million for the management of refuse in Minna, the state capital and other major cities in the state.

The chairman of the state’s taskforce on environmental management, Alhaji Sani Musa, made this known on Saturday in an interview with the Daily Trust, explaining that some of the facilities would also be used in the beautification of the cities to meet up with modern environmental standards.

He explained that the taskforce has intensified efforts to rid the state capital of the many refuse dump sites which he said poses environmental hazards to residents of the city.

Musa said the taskforce has recorded some achievements in this direction with the evacuation and reclaiming of over 150 refuse dump sites in Minna, adding that structures have been erected at such sites to prevent regeneration of refuse dumps.

He listed some of the procured equipments to include about 60 buckers, two evacuation trucks, bulldozers and receptacles.

On the beautification of Minna, the chairman said government was set to construct recreation and children’s amusement parks in the city, adding that such recreation parks have been mapped out.

He explained that work has already started on the rehabilitation of the abandoned Murtala Park along Bosso road, adding that the park will meet the needs of residents and civil servants who would want to relax after work.
