Work has commenced on some six major roads contracted out by the Nasarawa State government. They include the Doma-Akwatta-Angbashi - Benue border, Toto-Umaisha, Agaza-Angwatashi-Obi-Assakio and Panda-Karu roads.
Construction and rehabilitation commenced after the flagging - off of activities on the affected roads by the state governor, Alhaji Aliyu Akwe Doma and the mobilization of contractors handling them. Speaking at the flag-off ceremony for the rehabilitation of Toto-Umaisha road at the weekend, Gov. Doma said the gesture was in fulfillment of his pledge during the electioneering campaigns to provide infrastructural facilities with a view to open up all parts of the state to opportunities for rapid socio-economic development. The on-going construction/rehabilitation, he said, is only but the first phase of the administration’s programme of massive construction of road networks. "I want to assure you that besides these roads, more shall be constructed in due course and in different parts of the state," he pledged. He commended the contractor handling the Toto-Umaisha road project, Buletine Construction Nig. Limited, for quickly mobilising to site soon after the contract was awarded, noting that the gesture indicated the company’s preparedness to keep to its contractual obligations. The 50 kilometer Toto-Umaisha rehabilitation work is to cost the state government over N 1.23bn and is expected to be completed within six months. The weekend flag-off is the fourth in the series of such ceremonies since the over N15 billion road contract was signed last month. Views: 381
