The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kano State, has filed an appeal at the Appeal Court in Kaduna State, challenging the Adamu Jauro-led tribunal judgment which upheld the election of Malam Ibrahim Shekarau of the ANPP in the April 2007 gubernatorial election.
The party’s state publicity secretary, Alhaji Mukhtari Ishaq, who exclusively hinted Daily Trust yesterday, said the party was not convinced with the Justice Adamu Jauro-led tribunal judgment. Alhaji Mukhtari Ishaq stated; "There are so many irregularities in Jauro’s judgment which cannot be overlooked hence, our party deems it necessary to pursue its mandate at the appeal tribunal court." Ishaq further told Daily Trust that the case was filed before the Kaduna Tribunal Appeal Court last Monday, adding that "the party has concluded plans to pursue the case to its logical conclusion." He affirmed that although the Tribunal Appeal Court has not fixed a date for the case, it assured that it would soon communicate a date to all parties involved for the commencement of the case. It would be recalled that the Justice Adamu Jauro-led tribunal in Kano, had on 12th March, upheld the victory of Malam Ibrahim Shekarau in a judgment which took the five man tribunal eight hours. Governor Ibrahim Shekarau and Alhaji Ahmed Garba Bichi, the present Minister of State for Commerce contested the seat of governor during the April 14th gubernatorial election in Kano, the election which was said to have been won by the former. The two candidates went to the petition tribunal led by Justice Adamu Jauro, but the tribunal in its judgment upheld the victory of Malam Ibrahim Shekarau. Views: 356
