Senate President, David Mark, has been advised to continue with his current cordial interaction with all representatives at the National Assembly from the state to forge a common front to solve the problems of under-development in Benue State.

Benue State Deputy Governor, Chief Steven Lawani, gave the advice in his remarks at the 60th birthday dinner in honour of the Senate President on Saturday in Abuja.

Chief Lawani, according to a statement from Ona Idu, his chief press secretary, led a 60-man delegation to the dinner and said though the people of the state were mindful of the additional role of a national leader on Senator Mark, as a statesman, the Senate President has a great responsibility to use his "vast experience to carry out the great historical task of working with our president and his colleagues to lead our people out of the current stagnant economy".

According to Chief Lawani, "it is in recognition of that great responsibility that Governor Gabriel Suswan has continued to express that he is the luckiest governor to have a brother as Senate President during his tenure". Lawani stated that Governor Suswan has consistently used the reality of the Senate President to urge Benue elites to eschew individual differences and interests in order to explore the privileges and opportunities God has given them to improve the lives of Benue people. Chief Lawani said the mission of the delegation to the dinner was in tandem with the Governor’s call.

The deputy governor said the prayer of Benue people and the North Central geo-political zone is for Senator Mark to use the challenges that shaped his life to "strongly respond and reconnect to the current realities of our national political and social life," in which he is playing a major role as the number three citizen.

The dinner marked the climax of a week-long event lined up to celebrate the 60th birthday anniversary of Senate President, David Mark.

"Since the beginning of this memorable event last Tuesday with the lecture book presentation, a lot has been said about the character and personality of the celebrant. So much has been said about his rich career as a soldier, a profession which symbolizes the highest level of patriotism and sacrifice any citizen could offer his country.

Therefore, when His Excellency, Governor Gabriel Suswam gave me the onerous task of leading the state’s delegation to this dinner, I wondered what would be said that has not already been known about Senator Mark", he said.

I pray that God in His infinite mercy, will continue to help David Mark even as he shoulders this great National responsibilities. The true and worthy Idoma sons and daughters are solidly behind him, only the outcasts, aliens and prodigal Idomas are the ones that are on a devlish mission to bring him down. Alekwu Idoma will keep him there. Happy birthday to you, our great Leader.
