Ownership The Weekly Trust and Daily Trust are well-focused, market-driven and general interest newspapers. The publications, which made their debut in March 1998 and January 2001 respectively, crystallize the revolutionary vision of an independent Board of Directors. The two newspapers are owned and funded by 19 Shareholders of Media Trust Nigeria, Limited who are mostly young and talented Nigerian professional in various fields. Debut and outlook At inception and up to its first anniversary, the Weekly Trust was published in black & white (with masthead in red colour) on off-white newsprint. However, since March 1999 the Weekly Trust has carried a unique identity that was shaped by its full colour prints on excellent white newsprint. Having achieved considerable stride in the design and publication of Weekly Trust, the sister publication, Daily Trust, made its debut in full colour from 15 January, 2001. Thus, the publication’s refreshing editorial contents are spiced with bright colours and exquisite layout that are predicated on the visual principle of B-CH-U-P-S (Balance, Contrast, Harmony, Unity, Proportion and Systemetry) in newspaper design. This is intended to justify the worth of the already subsidized cover price and give value to advertiser/buyers’ money. Print run and circulation The Weekly Trust and Daily Trust are now the largest circulating newspapers in Northern Nigeria. The only newspapers whose print runs are in five digits. The weekly sale (Friday through the weekend) for Weekly Trust equals to the combined weekly sale daily newspapers. We are in addition the pioneers in colour production in the North. The Daily Trust, building on the goodwill of the weekly started producing on five digits from inception. The sales copies are distributed in all towns and cities in the North; Lagos, Abeokuta and Ibadan in the South-West; Port Harcourt, Yenagoa, Benin, Calabar in the South South; Onitsha, Owerri, and Enugu in the South East; and in several outlets in London, England. Editorial contents As general interest publications, the editorial contents of Daily Trust and Weekly Trust uphold the libertarian principle. Yet, the publications display profound regard for social responsibility in their news coverage, and editorial comments. Daily Trust Being the first daily newspaper form the Federal Capital territory, Abuja, Daily Trust usually devotes the early pages to news coverage. This is aside special pages for Crime stories, Arts & Entertainment, Information Technology, Health, Inside Politics, Star Feature, Features and the Parliament. Also due to is closeness to the seat of government and multilateral diplomacy, Daily Trust also devotes about four pages to international news. There is also the vital provision for communication feedback in form of letters to the Editor which usually share the page with rib-cracking cartoons. Four of the powerful writers in the country have been brought into the Editorial board as columnists. They are Mohammed Haruna, Sam Nda Isiah, Idang Alibi, Ujudud Shariff and Adamu Adamu. Weekly Trust The Weekly Trust is making its mark as an informative and educative news publication. It cover stories every week are not only topical and national, they are written in very lucid language. The Business & Economy pages are produced in full colour while a novel pages for development news has been introduced to correct the tendency in newspaper to believe that it is only the bizarre events that makes news.
